Below is this week's letter from our Superintendents, looking ahead to how we engage with worship as we enter the autumn and enter a new Connexional Year.

As we enter a new Methodist year together in these exceptional times it feels so different to the new beginnings that we usually experience and celebrate. Some of our Churches are looking to re-open for worship through this month following Government and Methodist guidance with shorter services without communal singing and extended periods of fellowship. Many of our churches are continuing to share in prayer and fellowship through phone calls, newsletters, WhatsApp groups, emails, posted worship sheets, zoom and online services.

It was quite an eye-opener to read recently that 1 in 4 people in Britain have accessed a Christian Service online during the months of lockdown. One of the great joys of this time of exile from our buildings has been the inspirational District Online Worship Live which has given us a real sense of connecting with our sisters and brothers around the District in a way we haven’t experienced before.

The District Live Worship will be available fortnightly from this week which you can find on Facebook and on YouTube at 10:30 on a Sunday morning (or watch back later). This coming Sunday will include a welcome to those who are beginning new ministry in the Birmingham District, and worship on the 20th September will be a District Youth Service.

On the second and fourth Sundays of the month there are a variety of services available from our Circuit and Connexion that we hope will be helpful for those who are continuing to worship online.

The Church at Carrs Lane and Solihull Methodist Church both have worship available on their websites, and the Methodist Church provide Live-streamed services from Methodist Central Hall Westminster, Wesley’s Chapel London, Swan Bank Methodist Church in Burslem, and Sthie (meaning “At home”) which is a very different worship experience from the Isle of Man. Click on the links to find them or here for more information.

As we continue to pray and worship in a variety of imaginative ways, a very Happy New Methodist Year to you all!

Alison, Neil and Nick
