Dear sisters and brothers of the Birmingham Methodist Circuit,

At this time of year, many of our Churches will usually have held their annual Church Anniversary Celebrations. I wonder how often have we heard the message at those Services that the Church is not the building, it’s the people in the unity of Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Little did we know when we were making arrangements for our Church year last Autumn that we would be living the truth and reality of that during this time of exile from our buildings. One of the great joys and delights of lockdown has been the opportunity to worship and pray together with our sisters and brothers across the Circuit and District through the District Worship Live. Every week, we have been able to pray and worship together thanks to the hard work of the team that produces the Service and the inspirational input from those who have contributed.

Another act of worship that would have been planned for this time of year is a Circuit Service to say farewell and thank you to those who are moving on this summer. Again, this will now take place as part of the District Worship Live this coming Sunday. The Service will include farewells to Rev. Vicki Atkinson and Rev. David Alford. We would like to say a huge thank you to Vicki and David for the wonderful contribution that they have made to the life of the Circuit and the Churches they have had pastoral oversight of. We are very sorry to see them go, but we hold them both and their families in our prayers at this time as they make their journey on in the service of Christ and the Church. Vicki is moving to the Epworth and Scunthorpe Circuit and David to the Dudley and Netherton Circuit as Superintendent. We will also say farewell to Rudaviro Mvundura who has had a massive impact on the lives of our young people and their leaders through her District Youth ministry. Ruda is moving to the Coventry and Nuneaton Circuit so we look forward to still seeing her at District Youth Services and events.

We have been richly blessed through the ministries of Vicki, David and Ruda, and we give thanks for the ways in which their ministry will continue to be an inspiration to those whose lives have been blessed by the Holy Spirit through their sharing of the Gospel in word and action.

Yours in Christ,

Alison, Neil and Nick
