In 2014 we became a Local Ecumenical Partnership joining Hall Green Methodist Church with Sparkhill United Church, a united Moravian and URC congregation whose own premises had proved impossible to maintain. We asked ourselves “what is our joint purpose in this part of Hall Green?” and “can we maintain this large set of Methodist premises?”. Unsure of the detail, but believing that God wanted us to stay put, 2020 Vision came into being – a two-part project in which congregational members renovated redundant space ready to be used as a self-contained space for some other community-facing organisation, while we embarked on what has become an £800,000 architect-led redesign of the rest of the premises into space suitable for further development of community as well as church use.
During our Covenant Service on Sunday 7th January we celebrated the fact that through many generous donors, God has provided sufficient funds to cover our known costs, and the builders moved in the next day! We’ll praise him for all that is past – and trust him for all that’s to come!
