December 2020 COVID-19 Update

Dear sisters and brothers of the Birmingham Circuit,

As we are sure you will be aware, it was announced last Thursday that our Local Restriction is "Very High Tier Three", including Warwickshire and Solihull.

This means that communal worship is able to restart in our buildings from 2nd December for as many people as can be safely accommodated with social distancing measures.

  • BUT this also includes the very important proviso that there should be "no interaction with anyone outside your household or support bubble either inside or outside the building", especially for those over 70.  So no mingling and chatting, just worship!
  • Church stewards must therefore make sure there is minimal conversation between those attending worship.
  • Travel to your usual place of worship is not restricted although this will alter if the local Tier levels change.
  • However travelling with people outside your household or support bubble is not permitted.  Therefore offering lifts to others to church is not allowed.
  • Please continue to ensure your building is Covid secure,
    • wear face coverings,
    • use and provide hand sanitiser on entry and exit from the church,
    • maintain 2 metre distancing and follow the guidance for Tier 3 worship restrictions.
  • Please be especially vigilant when worship is being led by a visiting Preacher and respect that they should be able to remove face coverings to preach, so need to be in excess of 2m from anyone else.
  • Always open some windows and have some ventilation which will mean people need to be prepared that the worship space may be cold.

Individual Church Councils may decide to continue with online worship and not reopen their buildings, particularly if the incidence of Covid is very high in your locality.

It is very important that we follow the guidance at all times,  and to note that if any areas change Tier, there will be different guidance.

Keep an eye on the Methodist website for updates here.

Our worship and fellowship through Advent and Christmas is clearly going to be like no other. The restrictions will be very challenging but please take great care and let's do all that we can to keep everyone safe and well.

Every blessing to you all through these challenging and exceptional times,

Alison, Neil and Nick, Richard and Jayne
