Circuit Welcome Service 2019
On Sunday 1st September people from across the Birmingham Methodist Circuit gathered at Solihull Methodist Church for our 2019 Welcome Service.
Welcome Services are held at the beginning of each new Methodist year in September, to introduce and welcome ministers who have been newly stationed in our Circuit, and to welcome new lay staff before they begin their work.
This year we welcomed Rev. Andrew Orton and Rev. Sue Shortman newly to the circuit. Andrew is the new Minister at Solihull Methodist, and joint new minister of Shirley Methodist, responsibility for which he will share with Rev. Caz Hague. Sue is the new Minister of Acocks Green, Cambridge Road and Sparkhill Methodist Churches. We also welcomed Rev. Barbara Calvert, a Supernumerary Minister now with pastoral responsibility for Northfield Methodist Church and Rev. Mindy Bell who during the last year became the Methodist Chaplain at the University of Birmingham. Three new Lay Staff were also welcomed into roles with the Circuit: Vivien Jones, our new Circuit Financial Administrator, Dean Taylor a Youth and Children's Worker in the Green Mission and Ministry Team who will based at Solihull Methodist Church, and Arul Israel, a Youth and Children's Worker in the Blue Mission and Ministry Team who will be based at Selly Oak Methodist Church.
This joyful and well-attended service included an excellent sermon from Chair of the Birmingham District Rev. Ian Howarth, a lovely band and choir from Solihull Methodist Church supporting the wonderful congregational singing and an offering of greetings from adults, children and young people representing churches from the Circuit as well as representatives from other denominations involved in Churches Together. The afternoon was rounded off with tea, cakes and a time of fellowship.
Below are a selection of photographs from this years welcome service.
